I.N.R.I.

An ass enters an eastern street,
raises tense ears, tastes transient tears,
senses a rare, an instant, stir;
trees tear at air, net satin rain,
set in train an insistent rite.
An as starts, strains at reins, assents;
an artisan sits at ease, sees,
is seen: sane? insane? saint? sinner?
                             Hosanna, anyway!
