Beyond The Call Of Duty

Thanks for the jollity,
Quips and frivolity -
And some décolleté,
Perfect in qualité!
Thanks for the sharing;
Thank you for caring
For sand-splattered tinies -
Both grumblies and whinies,
For dishy young tweenies
In tempting bikinis,
For derelict oldies
With boom-battered shouldies.
Thank you for smiling,
Enchanting, beguiling;
Thank you for loving us;
And not for shoving us
Under the dagger board -
Thanks for each drag aboard.
Thanks for the sailing;
Thank you for failing
To keel-haul or whip us
(with angry French flippers!)
Thanks for the lingo
Of gybe-ho! by jingo,
Of outfalls and G-strings
And jockstraps and goose-wings.
Thanks for delectable,
Always acceptable,
Orgings of munchings
And slurpings and crunchings;
For cooks who are charming,
Inventive, disarming;
Thank you for shreddies,
For concrete-lined beddies.
Thanks for each outing
Despite persons touting
Their kilt-hidden privates
To goggling pirates;
Thank you for nursing,
Despite some lip-pursing,
The ulcered, abraded,
Sun-shattered, just jaded.
Thanks for your kindliness;
Thanks that you find for us
Each day a smiling face -
How do you stand the pace?
Thank you for living;
Thank you for giving
                 yourselves - always.
                 Our thanks - always....

(July, 1983)

In appreciation of a memorably happy PGL holiday in the south of France.
